The Chicago Blackhawks skated into Madison Square Garden, and after 60 minutes the Chicago Blackhawks notched a 5-2 win. Here are 5 quick Thoughts on the Chicago Blackhawks win tonight.

5. 60 minute effort!

All season long we have been waiting for the Hawks to show up for 60 minutes, and for maybe just  the 2nd time all season long the Hawks showed up for the entire game. The Hawks out shot the Rangers 35-25 and put more shots on net in both the first and second periods. The Hawks were skating fast, playing very good defense in the neutral zone, and played very solid in their own end. If the Hawks play like this more often, in the end the Hawks won’t be worried about making the playoffs, they will be in the playoffs.

4. Vinnie’s Speed is a Difference

The top line has struggled for most of the year with even die hard Chicago Blackhawks fans worried about Jonathan ToewsJoel Quenneville decided to put Vinnie Hinostroza on the Top line instead of Richard Panik, and the combination was good right from the beginning of the game to the very end.  Hinostroza scored the first goal of the game, and had a great chance at a second one. Hopefully this isn’t just a one game wonder, but maybe the answer to the top lines issues from this point forward.

3. Patrick Sharp Scored??

I was just as shocked as everyone else when Sharp got one past Henrik Lundqvist for the go ahead goal in the third period.  Sharp does look to play better with Alex DeBrincat on his wing. Maybe Sharp is just meant to be a mentor to young kids coming into the NHL.  I still think he should only be playing 2 out of every three games to keep him fresh, but he did look better tonight and the goal was pretty sweet to see go in.

2. Too Many Stupid Penalties

If your going to take a negative out of this game it was the penalties.  Lance Bouma was being aggressive on the forecheck when he took a penalty, but it still was one to avoid.  The Too many men on the ice penalty made me feel like this was a playoff game.  The worst penalty was Jeff Glass shooting the puck out of play to give the Rangers a 5 on 3 powerplay.  If the Hawks are going to bring their A game they can’t hurt it so much with dumb penalties moving forward.

1. Glass Slipper is still on!

The clock hasn’t struck midnight just yet.  Even though Jeff Glass took a dumb penalty that costed the team a goal, it didn’t stop Glass from being a real bright spot for the team. Who knows if this is one of those cinderella stories with a happy ending, but Glass is playing like a #1 goalie so far in his three starts. He makes me nervous when he leaves the crease, but he always looks like he’s squared up and ready for every shot when he’s in between the pipes. 2-0-1 is a great start to an NHL career and making it easier to wait for Corey Crawford to get healthy.
