5 Chicago Blackhawks Thoughts On 5-1 Win Over Detroit

DETROIT, MI - JANUARY 25: Anthony Duclair
DETROIT, MI - JANUARY 25: Anthony Duclair

The Chicago Blackhawks really had a terrible homestand, so maybe it was good to get away from Chicago on Thursday night as they defeated the Red Wings in Detroit. Here are 5 Thoughts about the much needed win.

5. The Breaks Tide Turned

Coming into the game the Chicago Blackhawks led the NHL with 40 posts hit in their first 48 games so it was nice to see the Red Wings hit the post three times while the tips and bounces went the Chicago Blackhawks way.  Of course, this is just one game and not the big picture, but I would like to think that maybe the tide is turning for the Blackhawks

4. Anton Forsberg Going Old School

When I watch Forsberg I think of watching Corey Crawford back in 2010-12, and that’s just make the stops that you are supposed to stop, and then throw in a few big saves and the Hawks have a chance to win.  Well, that’s exactly what Forsberg did after having some pretty tough outings the last couple times out.  I feel like he has way more natural talent than Jeff Glass, but he hasn’t shown it every time out.  He played solid all night long and that’s why the Hawks ended up with a Win tonight.

3. Hello Kitty

I must say there was a time when my daughter was totally into Hello Kitty, but like all things those days have past. Anyways, it’s amazing how much better Alex DeBrincat has been since joining the top line.  He’s a talented sniper so he needs to be playing with high skilled players and he was able to complete his second career hat trick this season.  He’s 2nd on the team now with 17 goals which is a pretty impressive rookie season with some thinking he had hit the rookie wall.

2. Vinnie’s Speed is Noticeable

When the Chicago Blackhawks lost to the Nashville Predators last year in the playoffs the lack of team speed was noticeable.  The Hawks have a lot more speed now with Vinnie Hinostroza being one of the speedsters.  He was very noticeable throughout the game including his goal in the first period.  I liked him on the top line, but it doesn’t matter who he plays with now he’s moving his feet and creating chances.

1. I Do Duclair!

Anthony Duclair had his best game in his short Chicago Blackhawks career with a goal and 2 assists. Duclair also has great speed and he was making plays and the puck was finding him all night long.  If the top line keeps playing like this,  the Hawks will have a chance to make a run to the playoffs.  Duclair has the chance to be this years Richard Panik that’s for sure.  I’m really excited to see what the top line can do the rest of the way in.

Bonus Thought

Why is there another break? Yes I know the entire league is on break for the All-Star Game, but it feels like everytime the Hawks grab any kind of momentum there is a break.
