In fourth place, the Chicago Blackhawks have improved their skill in the Central Division. Besides the key stars, here are three unsung players on the team.
1. David Kampf
David Kampf has been apart of the Chicago Blackhawks for three seasons now. Kampf was an undrafted free agent who signed an entry-level contract with the team back in 2017.
Since then, Kampf has played 161 NHL games, totaling to just 44 points. Even though he’s only scored 15 career goals, Kampf still gives a solid presence on the ice for the Blackhawks. He does things that aren’t talked about as much as they should be.
For starters, he’s good for 13-14 minutes a night on the ice. He’s always out there and plays with evil intentions, for the other team of course. Kampf hasn’t missed a game this season for the Blackhawks.
In 52 games, he has scored seven goals and has seven assists. Kampf has two of the Blackhawks’ 25 game-winning goals. He also has won 53.7% of his faceoffs.
Kampf has never been a goal-scorer. Even in his younger junior hockey years, he was always a grinder. He’s great on the penalty kill for the Blackhawks. He brings a young Marcus Kruger presence to the team.
He’s played with a lot of players during his three-year NHL career. Kampf tends to blend in with the third and fourth line players. That doesn’t make him a bad player though. He’s very serviceable on any line.
Kampf’s contract runs out in 2021. He currently has an AAV of $1,000,000 and will be a restricted free agent. It’s safe to say, he will be re-signed by the team.
