After losing 2-0 to the Blues, I am willing to admit defeat. The Chicago Blackhawks’ season pretty much over.
For the second time in three days, the Chicago Blackhawks have lost a game where Corey Crawford gave up just two goals. Crawford has kept the Blackhawks in many games as of late, with the team failing to help him out.
With the Blackhawks out of the playoffs by six points with 13 games left, it’s safe to call the season over. I know they still have a slim chance, but they are running out of time. This loss to the Blues could spell the end of the 2020 season for the Blackhawks.
I’ve been all for the Blackhawks making the playoffs this season. I’ve given up hope, so if they do miss, I won’t be as disappointed. This could be an overreaction though.
The Blackhawks have an interesting week coming up. They have games against both the Sharks and Senators. Those are two winnable games for them. That is just four points though. They’d still be out two.

The Blackhawks then go on for games against the Capitals and Wild. They play the Wild twice so an extra six points are sitting there. They’d have to win the next five games for me to change my tune on the season.
4-0-1 won’t even cut it. The Blackhawks have caught up to some of these teams that played more games than them. They don’t have that to fall back on. They’ve lost a lot of important games that have derailed their season. Each passing day, this becomes less of a possibility.
With 13 games left, there is still time. There are 26 remaining points for the Blackhawks to get. They’d have to steal at least 20 of them to have a chance. I’ve said for a while now that 90 points could be their magic number. That isn’t a guarantee though. They’d have to finish 10-3-0 to hit 90 points.
If the Blackhawks do miss the playoffs, they have to clean house. Rocky Wirtz has a few guys that he needs to get rid of. It starts with Scotty and Stan Bowman. Those two have single-handily ruined the Blackhawks.
After that, I’d relieve John McDonough and the whole Jeremy Colliton coaching staff of their duties. They’d have to take a deep look at their scouting pool too. There will need to be big changes this offseason.
If these moves don’t happen, expect another disappointing year in 2021.
