The NHL could realistically return this summer. No, I’m not joking. There could be professional sports played relatively soon.

Sportsnet reported that during an interview, US infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci was quoted as saying,

"“There’s a way of doing that: Nobody comes to the stadium,” Fauci said. “Put (the players) in big hotels, wherever you want to play, keep them very well surveilled. … Have them tested every week and make sure they don’t wind up infecting each other or their family and just let them play the season out.” Dr. Anthony Fauci (Sportsnet)"

Sports fans, this is kind of what we’ve been waiting to hear.

It might also mean more games than usual are televised since no one would be allowed to see the games live.  While nothing beats seeing a live game, the fact that many more games could be broadcast would be very cool for people who generally aren’t able to see them

The NHL could realistically resume its season. albeit under peculiar circumstances.

Gary Bettman has been quoted by numerous outlets saying that the league will resume in the summer. The NHL Commissioner may just get his wish, and so might the fans.

So where does that leave the Chicago Blackhawks?

For Chicago fans, this is the number one question right now. Will they have a shot at competing for the post-season, or are they done?

Bettman has also said that multiple options are being discussed for how to proceed one the league can resume play.

Finish off the whole regular season? Only play out just a part of the regular season? Scrap the regular season altogether and just start the playoffs? (This would be the worst for Chicago, or the best if you’re just rooting for a great spot in the next draft.)

Things are still in motion, and it’s great to see that there would be a return to the ice for the NHL. How crazy is it going to be as well if the Blackhawks are playing the same days as the Cubs or the White Sox?

This might be like living in the sports version of The Twilight Zone!

Here’s hoping play can start-up again, soon.
