With the voting opening for the 2020 NHL fan choice awards, it’s only fitting that the Chicago Blackhawks ‘As Fast As Her’ documentary wins the “best team video” this year.

During the 2019-20 NHL season, the Chicago Blackhawks helped break barriers for women in hockey, but that didn’t start because of them, it started because of the success of Kendall Coyne and her ‘Team USA’ teammates.

After winning gold in the Olympics, Coyne was invited to the NHL All-Star game in San Jose, where she participated in the fastest skater competition. Coyne had the hockey world talking with her impressive performance.

It went from one once in a lifetime moment to a Blackhawks team documentary and even an all women’s NHL broadcast.

In March, Coyne and a few other major women in the sport of hockey were the first women to broadcast an NHL game. The Chicago native joined the crew as the rinkside analyst, along with Kate Scott as the play-by-play, AJ Mleczko as the analyst, and the rest of the crew killed it in their first-ever game. Hopefully, it opens the door to more events like that, not just once in a lifetime.

It’s not just a “feel good” moment, this was started with something so little as the fastest skater competition during All-Star weekend in 2019. That brought women into All-Star weekend in 2020, which was cool to see. They joined in on events and even had an all women’s game.

This was an exciting thing to see and hopefully, the women are invited back in 2021. It gives great exposer to the women’s national team, which they deserve as they have been winning a lot as of late.

They’ve earned everything they’ve gotten, which is why they should get your vote in the NHL fan choice awards.
