The Chicago Blackhawks are going into Week 2 of training camp on Monday. Here are things fans should look out for.
Going into Week 2 of training camp, the biggest thing to look out for is the Chicago Blackhawks goalie situation. It’s 13 days until August 1st, 2020. If Corey Crawford doesn’t return this week, it’s time to write him off and look towards Malcolm Subban and (probably) Collin Delia.
The next important thing is to see the line combinations Jeremy Colliton puts together. These lines Colliton puts together will be important, as it’ll give us an idea of what we’ll see during the exhibition game against the Blues.
Last Friday’s line pairings looked like this:
Forward:
DeBrincat-Toews-Saad
Nylander-Strome-Kane
Kubalik-Dach-Caggiula
Carpenter-Kampf-Highmore (Sikura)
Defense:
Keith-Boqvist
Seeler-Koekkoek
Carlsson-Seabrook
Krys-Beaudin
I like seeing Brent Seabrook on the third line, as his responsibilities will be limited as he eases back into playing, but he will still be there to make an impact. If you’ve seen any of the scrimmages or some of the practices, Seabrook has improved big time since we last saw him on the ice. Props to Seabrook for his hard work in rehab for his injuries.
Next, let’s see who else will make the team from Rockford. There’s a big chance we’ll see at least one or two guys join the team from the IceHogs, as a few players have missed time from injury. Of course, if Crawford doesn’t return, a goalie from Rockford will be added to the lineup.
The most important thing for the Blackhawks is to limit injuries just 13 days out. The team has been lucky with everyone getting that nice mini-offseason to heal up, but now it’s time for these guys to get ready for the playoffs. It’s a great opportunity to build for the future generation of this team, with these young guys almost starting their “second season” in the playoffs.
The deeper they go, the more experience. Hockey is back and Week 2 should be exciting.
