The Chicago Blackhawks lost to the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday and they are falling behind in the standings, but this season is not over yet. Tonight is another opportunity for the Hawks to get a bounce-back win.
The Hawks did not have their best game in Detroit a few nights ago. After taking a 1-0 lead, the team ended up losing 4-1 after an all-around bad game. Yes, Kevin Lankinen did not help, but all around the team needs to be better.
The Blackhawks are four points behind Nashville with a game in hand, if they can get a win tonight against Detroit and then show up against the Preds in three straight games then the playoff picture could be changed.
I am not saying this is a likely outcome, rather it is still possible. Overall this team needs to play better. Having star players not register a shot on goal is not a recipe for success. Kirby Dach, Alex DeBrincat, and Dylan Strome all failed to register a shot on goal. While I like the idea of DeBrincat and Dach taking some time on the ice in the defensive zone on a penalty kill, I think everyone would rather see DeBrincat scoring goals.
The Chicago Blackhawks need to play better, and they should be desperate.
After their last game, the Hawks spoke about how they thought they played better than the score reflected and there really wasn’t too much anger after the loss. I understand that Detroit has been hot as of late, but they are the Red Wings, and the Hawks need these points right now.
Hopefully, the Hawks are desperate tonight and show up to play. Maybe they can be more physical and try and win as many battles up and down the ice as they can. If the team loses tonight they go into the final 11 games of the season only playing teams like Nashville, Dallas, Carolina, Florida, and Tampa Bay. If they are struggling to beat Detroit then things are not going to get any easier.
