Throughout their first seventeen games of the season, the Chicago Blackhawks have left many wanting more. After a 3-1 loss on the road to the Seattle Kraken, fans and players have voiced their frustration on the team's effort not being consistent over the course of all three periods.
Sitting 27th in the league with a record of 6-10-1, the Blackhawks are tied with the San Jose Sharks for the fourth-lowest amount of goals scored with forty-two. It is clear that last season's offensive shortcomings have bled into this year despite all of the additions up-front.
Areas that have stuck out poorly from the Blackhawks' game is the lack of speed from the forwards and a lack of engagement to crash the net and go for "greasy goals". Ryan Donato, for example, has been an outlier in that category and has been rewarded for it, but that play has not been consistent with the rest of the lineup.
Given the recent offensive struggles, it may be time for the Blackhawks to consider calling up some of their young players from Rockford to potentially inject some new life into the forward group.
These are the three forwards who the Blackhawks should consider calling up from the Rockford IceHogs
The most obvious player deserving of a call-up is Frank Nazar. After being sent to the AHL after training camp, Nazar has solidified himself as Rockford's best player. His10 points in 11 games has proven his skill is translating well to the professional game after being a top scorer in the NCAA last season.
Nazar brings a lot of what the Blackhawks could use currently on the roster. His speed, back checking ability, and creativity would be welcomed additions to the forward core. In Rockford, Nazar has been playing as the top-line center and in all situations. His special teams play in the AHL gives the Blackhawks another option to put on the second power play unit to showcase his high-level skill.
With many members of the Blackhawks currently playing through a slump, calling up their top forward prospect could bring some much needed energy to shift momentum for the struggling players.
