With the trade deadline fast approaching, it is a great time to look back at the top 3 worst trades in Chicago Blackhawks history.
Boy, there have been some terrible trades the Hawks have made.
No. 3: Artemi Panarin gets traded to Columbus for Brandon Saad in 2015
In what was the most recent of the three trades, forward Artemi Panarin, Tyler Motte, and a 2017 6th-round pick were traded from the Chicago Blackhawks to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Brandon Saad, Anton Forsberg, and a 2018 5th-round pick.
This was an ultimate panic move from the GM at the time Stan Bowman who was trying desperately to extend the Hawks dynasty window after the Blackhawks lost in the first round in back-to-back seasons.
Artemi Panarin was only 25 years old when he was traded and won the Calder Trophy in his rookie year while putting up 70+ points in both seasons he was with the Hawks. He also had incredible chemistry with Patrick Kane, the two were one of the best duos in the league during their time together.
Bowman was trying to bring back the glory days when trading for a former two-time Stanley Cup winner with the team during their dynasty, but the trade would not pan out in the slightest for the Blackhawks.
In the three years Brandon Saad was back with the Hawks, he only managed to put up over 35 points once when he recorded 47 points in the 2018-19 season. On the other hand, Panarin has been a point-per-game player throughout his entire career with the Blue Jackets and now the New York Rangers.
The timing of the trade just adds salt to the wound with both Kane and Toews still in the prime of their careers and would have had a superstar forward to try and continue contending along with them. The trade will easily go down as one of the worst in Blackhawks history with how both players' careers panned out.
