Earlier, I talked about how cool that December 13th matchup would be against the Detroit Red Wings when the Blackhawks cap off honoring their time at Chicago Stadium. I also touched on how other capstone games will include tilts with the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins.
Well, it almost makes everything full circle since, if you remember when the NHL and the Blackhawks released their schedule last month, their home opener will be against none other than the Montreal Canadiens, yet another Original Six team.
It will also be the night when, assuming the weather holds, the Blackhawks parade along Madison Street for some good old red carpet arrivals, per NHL.com. And what better way to kick off the Centennial Season's home slate than red carpet arrivals and facing off with the league's oldest franchise?
Now, if only we could've found a way to get the New York Rangers involved, we'd have had all six teams helping the Hawks celebrate their 100th season in style.
How will the Original Six help the Chicago Blackhawks celebrate Year 100?
Glad you asked. Well, as you know, all 32 teams have theme nights scattered about the year. And, depending on which arena you're in, you'd expect a different slate of themes. As for the Hawks, the biggest ones of the year will be as follows:
On November 15th, they'll have "The Originals Celebration Night," which will come against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Then, as I went into detail on earlier today, "The Madhouse Centennial Celebration Night" will come against those pesky Red Wings on December 13th.
"The Banner Years Centennial Celebration Night" will be on January 17th when the new-look Boston Bruins skate into the Windy City. And I say "new look," because in case you missed it, Boston picked a good season to unveil some classic uniforms as their new permanent get-ups.
And as your resident uniform monitor, this one's gonna be one of the better-looking matchups of the season. But then again, any time the Original Six meet, you get some outstanding uniform aesthetics regardless of who's playing.
Will the New York Rangers join the show?
Looking at the schedule, the Hawks play the Blueshirts at home on December 10th, which will be the penultimate home in Chapter 2 of their Centennial Celebration. The Hawks kick off Chapter 2 on November 23rd against the Colorado Avalanche, so it would've been great to have seen them play a team like the Rangers to open up one of these chapters.
I was really hoping, when I first started reading about what to expect from the celebrations this season, that they'd close out Chapter 4, labeled The Originals, against New York. But alas, that'll come against the Vancouver Canucks on March 6th.
So, we'll have to settle for the field goal, and at least claim that the matchup vs. the Rangers will come just three days before the Wings ride into town. And that's better than the game taking place at some random time.
Overall, the NHL and the Hawks did a pretty solid job of making the Original Six part of these celebrations.
