Morning Chirps: Bedard extension talk, black jersey is the Bears' good luck charm

The Chicago Blackhawks will be back at the Fifth Third Arena today for some well-needed practice time. They have a busy week ahead with three home games against the Minnesota Wild (Weds), Nashville Predators (Fri), and Anaheim Ducks (Sun). Blackhawks Chirps

• The Blackhawks want to move on from the moral victories business, so they weren’t celebrating anything from last night's loss. However, there were plenty of positives to build off of in playing the Colorado Avalanche tough, but coming up one goal short.

• We broke down the game over at the CHGO Blackhawks Postgame Show.

• Insider Frank Seravalli was on the CHSN pregame show last night, and Connor Bedard’s contract extension came up. Seravalli believes that if the young star signs an eight-year extension, it will be worth between $12.5 million and $15 million per season.

• The Blackhawks' black jerseys are creating quite the buzz. We saw the Chicago Bulls wearing the jerseys as they entered the United Center on Friday night. On Sunday, Chicago Bears wide receiver DJ Moore wore his personalized jersey to Soldier Field. He might want to rock a Blackhawks jersey for the rest of the season as he scored two touchdowns in the Bears' 31-28 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

• On this date in 1926, the Detroit Cougars, later renamed the Red Wings, won their first game in franchise history by beating the Blackhawks 1-0 at the Chicago Coliseum.

• In 2023, Jason Dickinson scored a hat trick in regulation before Kevin Korchinski scored in overtime to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3. Korchinski became the fourth rookie defenseman in team history to score an overtime goal, joining Brent Seabrook, Lasse Kukkonen, and Gord Fraser. He was also the fourth-youngest blueliner with an OT goal in league history.

NHL Chirps

• The Winnipeg Jets had their Hockey Fights Cancer Night on Sunday. Each player walked into the Canada Life Centre holding a sign declaring who they are fighting for. Jonathan Toews showed his support for his old friend Troy Murray. Those two have so many connections. Both played at the University of North Dakota, won a Selke Trophy while wearing No. 19, and went to the Jets after playing for the Blackhawks.

• Alexandre Texier didn’t stay unemployed very long. Shortly after having his contract with the St. Louis Blues terminated, he signed with the Montreal Canadiens for the rest of the season.

• The New York Islanders announced that Alexander Romanov needs shoulder surgery and will be out for five to six months.

• Meanwhile, Mikko Rantanen, who escaped punishment for the hit that injured Romanov, will be getting at least a one-game suspension. Because he got game misconducts in back-to-back contests, he automatically receives a one-game ban. There are multiple reports that he may get additional games off for his hit on Calgary Flames forward Matt Coronato.
