The Chicago Blackhawks are back on the practice ice this morning after their first win of the young season. They will prepare for tomorrow night’s big divisional game against the St. Louis Blues. Meanwhile, a future Blackhawk hopeful continued his hot start while a franchise legend found the scoresheet for the first time in nearly three years.

Blackhawks Chirps

  • In a new weekly feature on Mondays, I’ll be looking at Blackhawks Trends: three things trending up, and three trending down. This week’s edition features Louis Crevier, Jeff Blashill, and Sam Lafferty.
  • Jason Dickinson, Wyatt Kaiser, and Nick Folingo all played their roles perfectly to help the Blackhawks to their first win of the season. It wasn’t pretty, but it still counted for two points.
  • I jumped on the CHGO Blackhawks Postgame Show to break down the big win at the United Center.
  • Nathan Behm had a goal and an assist in the Kamloops Blazers' 4-3 overtime win against the Regina Pats. The 2025 third-round pick has six goals and 10 points in his first seven Western Hockey League games of the season.
  • On this date in 1993, Chris Chelios set a team record by racking up 37 penalty minutes in the third period against the Hartford Whalers. He was assessed a minor, major, 10-minute misconduct, and two game misconducts.
  • In 2023, Connor Bedard became the 10th player in National Hockey League history, 18 years old or younger, to start the season with points in three straight games. His streak was extended with the secondary assist on Tyler Johnson’s goal during a 3-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens.
  • Blackhawks Birthday Roll Call, Oct. 14: Harvey Fraser.

NHL Chirps

  • Jonathan Toews picked up his first NHL point since 2023 with an assist in the Winnipeg Jets' 5-2 win over the New York Islanders.
  • Later in the game, number one overall pick Matthew Schaefer picked up the secondary assist on the Islanders’ second goal. The helper made him the third 18-year-old defenseman in NHL history to have points in his first three games, joining Phil Housley (1982-82) and Jakob Chychrun (2016-17).
  • Michael Misa, the second-overall pick of the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, will make his debut for the San Jose Sharks tonight as they host the Carolina Hurricanes. He was centering their third line in Monday’s practice, in between Ty Dellandrea and former Blackhawk Philipp Kurashev.
  • Canadian Thanksgiving saw some key injuries yesterday. Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk left his game after being cross-checked by Nashville Predators defenseman Roman Josi. Detroit Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond had an early exit due to an upper-body injury suffered from a hit by Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev. There were no immediate updates on either player after their games.
  • Jeff Blashill wasn’t the only head coach to get his first win with his new team. After playing 621 games for the Philadelphia Flyers, he earned his first victory behind their bench. His Flyers beat the Florida Panthers 5-2, with Trevor Zegras setting up the game-winning goal with this sick pass.
  • NHL Birthday Roll Call, Oct. 14: Skip Krake, Dave Schultz, Alexei Kasatonov, Perry Anderson, Sylvain Lefebvre, Scott Mayfield, Quinn Hughes, and Matias Maccelli.
