The Chicago Blackhawks have a well-deserved day off today after a big win last night. Wednesday was a good evening for the organization, as some of the Rockford IceHogs' newer faces led them to their first victory in nearly two weeks.
Blackhawks Chirps
- The Blackhawks regrouped after their rough weekend and put together their best effort of the season in a 3-0 win over the New York Rangers.
- We broke down the big win on last night’s CHGO Blackhawks Postgame Show.
- Jeff Maroon is back with his weekly NHL power rankings, and, as you can imagine, last weekend didn’t help the Blackhawks move up the ladder.
- Todd Matthews writes that the back-to-back blowouts in California are actually a well-needed reality check that will help the young Blackhawks in the long run.
- The IceHogs beat the Iowa Wild 4-3 last night after falling behind 2-0. Landon Slaggert opened the scoring with a nice toe drag. Nick Lardis tied the game with his 12th goal of the season. Kevin Korchinski scored the game-winning goal early in the third period before Nolan Allan iced the game with an empty-netter. Sam Rinzel, who was paired with Allan, had two assists in his AHL debut. Laurent Brossoit made 30 saves to earn his first professional win since April 2023.
- Steven Ellis of Daily Faceoff gave us who he thought were the biggest snubs for Canada’s 2026 World Junior Championship roster, and you’ll recognize a trio of names on his list.
- On this date in 1985, the Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers played one of the wildest games in NHL history. The teams combined for 21 goals and 90 shots as the Blackhawks ultimately lost 12-9. The 21 goals were the most scored in a game since the red line was introduced in 1943. The 12 second-period goals were a new league record for the most in a single period. Believe it or not, Wayne Gretzky did not score a single goal, but he tied an NHL record with seven assists.
- Three years later, Steve Larmer set a new franchise record by playing in his 510th consecutive game, as the Blackhawks beat the St. Louis Blues 5-2.
- Blackhawks Birthday Roll Call, Dec. 11: Pierre Pilote, Elmer “Moose” Vasko, and Dave Richardson.
NHL Chirps
- Robby Fabbri is returning to St. Louis. He signed a two-way deal with the Blues for the rest of the season. The move comes after Jordan Kyrou was placed in injured reserve. He had been playing with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL on a tryout contract. Fabbri was a first-round draft pick of the Blues in 2014 and scored 32 goals and 73 points in 164 games before he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings. He was part of the 2019 Stanley Cup Championship team.
- The Blues will be without center Nick Bjugstad when they host the Blackhawks on Friday. The team announced that he will miss at least five days due to an upper-body injury.
- Patrick Kane did not score a goal in the Detroit Red Wings’ 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames last night. He is still at 497 career goals, with one more game before coming to town on Saturday.
- Is there anything more entertaining than watching a player missing a skate blade try to get off the ice?
Warren Foegele’s skate blade exploded off while blocking a shot so he had to go full GORILLA MODE to get off the ice 😂🦍 pic.twitter.com/f5TMy2evMR

- Moving over to women’s hockey, the Rivalry Series has been all Canada for the last five years. However, Team USA got back in the win column with a 10-4 drubbing of our neighbors to the north last night. Last night’s win in Edmonton gave Team USA a 3-0 lead in this year’s four-game series to secure their first Rivalry Series win since they won four of the five games played in 2019-20.
