Blackhawks Chirps
- Last night’s loss was frustrating, with a blown 2-0 lead and a questionable call that erased a late goal. However, there were still plenty of positives to take away. Check out my Postgame Musings from late last night for all the analysis.
- Right after the game ended, I discussed the controversial finish with my pals Jay and Mario on the CHGO Blackhawks Postgame Show.
- According to Elliotte Friedman on the latest episode of 32 Thoughts, the Blackhawks are nearing a contract extension for general manager Kyle Davidson. He won’t be getting a new deal because of his 108-187-34 record, but for what is on the horizon. The better-than-expected start to this season is just the tip of the iceberg.
- Jim Lynch writes that Kevin Korchinski’s absence and what he can bring to the ice are noticeable on this Blackhawks roster.
- The Rockford IceHogs are off to a 3-0-0 start. Oliver Moore scored both goals in a 2-1 overtime win over the visiting Texas Stars. He has four goals in the last two games and is applying early-season pressure to get back to the NHL. Drew Commesso was excellent, making 29 saves to secure his second win of the season.
- Another day, another Marek Vanacker multi-goal game. He scored another two goals and four points in Friday night’s 7-3 beating of the Brampton Steelheads. He has 10 goals and 15 points in the first seven games of the season for the Brantford Bulldogs.

NHL Chirps
- The Los Angeles Kings announced that captain Anze Kopitar is considered week-to-week with a foot injury. He sustained the injury while blocking a shot in Monday’s loss to the Minnesota Wild. The injury is a big blow for the Kings, who are off to a slow 1-3-1 start to the season.
- The Colorado Avalanche recalled goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood from his conditioning stint in the AHL. He didn’t get any game action with the Colorado Eagles, just some practice time. He was never placed on injured reserve, so he’s available to play as soon as tonight against the Boston Bruins.
- Former Blackhawks forward John Hayden is back in the NHL. He was recalled from the AHL by the Seattle Kraken after they placed Frederick Gaudreau on injured reserve with an undisclosed ailment.
