Blackhawks extend another one of their core with Oliver Moore's five-year deal

The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Sept. 24 that they extended 21 year old forward Oliver Moore to a five-year, $4.25M AAV extension.

The Blackhawks have always viewed the former 19th overall pick as an integral part of their young team, and that will continue for the next several years.

It's a fantastic deal.

Moore's deal is a great value as his game develops over time

The Blackhawks have been locking in a lot of their young core within the last couple of months. Bowen Byram for the next six years (seven including this year), Connor Bedard for the next five years, and Frank Nazar and Alex Vlasic, who had already signed their extensions.

Moore is just another piece the Blackhawks got done early, as he was in the final year of his three-year, entry-level contract.

What makes Moore such a big part of the Blackhawks is his style of play feeds into the team's identity. The Blackhawks were eager to draft him because of his speed and skill, and looking at his place on the team now, there are still questions about where he will play in the long term, whether it's center or wing.

But how his game develops is the key with this deal.

He had 19 points in 51 games in his rookie season, and he brings that extra effort to any line or any spot he plays, whether at center or wing.

And his 19 points should improve, making his $4.25M AAV a very fair number as he progresses.

The Blackhawks will have more future contracts on their hands with players like Wyatt Kaiser, Sam Rinzel, Artyom Levshunov, and Nick Lardis. Therefore, Moore's deal is team-friendly.

Furthermore, going into the season, head coach Jeff Blashill commented on what he had seen from Moore during training camp on Sept. 21, "I think Ollie's had moments of looking really good. But same thing. It's just real kind of small sample sizes. The biggest thing I would say with Ollie is when I watched him play at the Worlds, and I know it's not NHL, you know, it can be different games or whatever. But I just thought he did a really good job of of having that tenacity without the puck, but being calmer with the puck, and to me that's his biggest key. If he can be calm with the puck, then again, it's kind of similar to Frankie (Nazar) in a different way, though. We'll just have the puck more, and when you're kind of chaotic with the puck, also you end up not having it as much. So I think he's showing signs of doing a real good job of that."

Blashill also included Moore's name among other Blackhawks players he sees helping their depth with Bedard out to start the season.

So, Moore's signing is significant in many ways, benefiting their present and future.
