The Chicago Blackhawks have added a major piece at the 2025 NHL Draft on Friday night, bringing in Anton Frondell with the third overall pick.
The Blackhawks drafted Frondell with the third overall pick after the New York Islanders selected Matthew Schaefer and the San Jose Sharks selected Michae Misa. For the Blackhawks, Misa was a generational talent the Hawks were looking to bring in, but after Misa came off the board courtesy of San Jose, Frondell is a good add for Chicago.
Frondell, who most likely won't be playing in Chicago until the 2026-27 NHL Season, has size and the ability to be a great top six forward for the Blackhawks. Frondell has a great two way game that the Blackhawks are lacking at this point in the rebuild, and bringing him on board helps get Chicago closer to contention.
The Blackhawks selection of Anton Frondell brings a much-needed dynamic duo to Chicago.
In the 2010s, the Chicago Blackhawks had Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. This new era of the Blackhawks will have Connor Bedard and Anton Frondell. Frondell could be a dynamic center or winger on a line with Bedard or Frank Nazar, and with a high ceiling, he is instantly one of the best prospects in the organization.
This is a big moment in Chicago. The Blackhawks already have plenty of star power on the rise with Frank Nazar, Oliver Moore, Sam Rinzel, and 2024 2nd Overall Pick Artyom Levshunov. But the Blackhawks' selection of Frondell gives Connor Bedard another star forward to lean on in a big moment.
The night is not over for Blackhawks fans just yet. General manager Kyle Davidson has another pick later on in the first round 25th overall courtesy of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and there is always the opportunity for trades. Get ready for a fun night!
