Morning Chirps: Nestrasil extends point streak, Wild lose a top forward for a few weeks

Blackhawks Chirps

  • In case you missed it yesterday, Jason Dickinson, Frank Nazar, and Andre Burakovsky all returned to practice, while Tyler Bertuzzi was absent. Head coach Jeff Blashill said Burakovsky will play tonight, but the other three are still considered day-to-day. He said there is a chance that all three will play tonight or that all three will miss the game. Stay tuned.

  • Julius Sumpf is not a prospect we have talked much about this season. The 2025 fourth-round pick is in his first season at Providence College as a teammate of John Mustard. He picked up his third assist of the season last night on Roger McQueen’s first NCAA goal. The 10th overall pick of the most recent draft scored his second goal later in the night as Providence beat Merrimack College 4-2.
  • Vaclav Nestrasil extended his point streak to six games with a pair of assists, as UMass lost to Boston College 7-3. He has seven goals and 15 points in his first 12 NCAA games.
  • On this date in 1964, Bobby Hull scored his 13th career hat trick and recorded an assist to lead the Blackhawks to a 4-2 win against the Maple Leafs at the Chicago Stadium.
  • In 2021, Marian Hossa and Doug Wilson were inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, along with Kim St. Pierre, Kevin Lowe, Jarome Iginla, and Ken Holland.

NHL Chirps

  • According to Elliotte Freidman on 32 Thoughts, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Vancouver Canucks are interested in signing former Blackhawks center David Kampf. His contract with the Maple Leafs has just been terminated, and he is now an unrestricted free agent.
  • The Montreal Canadiens are dealing with some serious injuries. Forward Alex Newhook underwent surgery to repair a broken ankle suffered against the Dallas Stars on Thursday. He is expected to be out for four months. Defenseman Kaiden Guhle, who hasn’t played in over a month, will be out for at least another eight weeks after having an additional procedure done on a partially torn adductor muscle.
