Chicago Blackhawks fans will get to see former team captain Jonathan Toews play at the United Center next season—just in a different uniform.

According to multiple reports, Toews will sign with the Winnipeg Jets on a one-year contract on July 1, according to Emily Kaplan of ESPN. Toews has not played hockey since the 2022-23 NHL Season, where he registered 31 points in 53 games with the Blackhawks.

Toews and Patrick Kane were in the final year of their contracts in 2022-23 when general manager Kyle Davidson let it be known that the Blackhawks would not be extending either player, forcing both stars to find new homes.

While Kane left Chicago at the 2023 trade deadline, Toews chose to play out the season. He has been on a healing path the past two years, and now seems ready for an NHL return.

Toews, who is from Winnipeg, joins a Jets team filled with talent. Mark Scheifele, Kyle Connor, Alex Iafallo, Neal Pionk, Josh Morrissey and Connor Hellebuyck are just some of the stars on the Presidents' Trophy-winning Jets.

Toews instantly walks into Winnipeg as a leader, one who has taken his team to Stanley Cup glory three times in his career, and it will be exciting to watch him make his NHL comeback.

In 1,067 NHL games, Toews has registered 372 goals and 883 points. Toews, 37, had played his entire NHL career in Chicago up to this point. The 2006 third overall pick has won three Stanley Cups, a Conn Smythe trophy and the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 2012-13.

With Toews joining Winnipeg, Blackhawks fans will have a handful of opportunities to see Toews play. The NHL Schedule has not been released for next season yet, but as a division rival, the Blackhawks will face Winnipeg either three or four times in 2025-26.
