Morning Chirps: No offer sheet for Robertson, Ducks avoid another poaching

If Jason Robertson is changing addresses this summer, it will be via a trade.

Sunday was a slow news day on the Chicago Blackhawks front. We are hopefully going to get an update on Connor Bedard’s injury today. Whenever that news comes through, we’ll bring it to you.

Blackhawks Chirps

  • If you were hoping for the Blackhawks to sign Jason Robertson to an offer sheet, that is not a possibility anymore. He and 14 other restricted free agents filed for arbitration on Sunday, which restricts them from negotiating with any other team. Here are the rest of those players, in addition to Robertson:
    F Xavier Bourgault (Ottawa Senators)
    F Kirby Dach (Montreal Canadiens)
    D Jamie Drysdale (Philadelphia Flyers)
G Jet Greaves (Columbus Blue Jackets)
F Alex Jefferies (New York Islanders)
    F Peyton Krebs (Buffalo Sabres)
F Connor McMichael (St. Louis Blues)
    F Cole Perfetti (Winnipeg Jets)
    F Nicholas Robertson (Pittsburgh Penguins)
    G Akira Schmid (Florida Panthers)
D Braden Schneider (New York Rangers)
    D Ronan Seeley (Carolina Hurricanes)
    F Cole Sillinger (Blue Jackets)
    F Trevor Zegras (Flyers)
  • Blackhawks Birthday Roll Call, July 6: Steve Sullivan, Christian Ehrfhoff, and Klas Dahlbeck.

NHL Chirps

  • This has been a disastrous offseason for Anaheim Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek. He’s in the middle of deciding whether to make Leo Carlsson the highest-paid player in the league thanks to the offer sheet from the Flyers. There were multiple reports that defenseman Pavel Mintyikov was going to be the next to get an offer sheet. That forced Verbeek to sign him to a five-year extension with a $7.2 million AAV. The money was likely more than he wanted to pay, but another offer sheet would be a nightmare, especially since they lost Radko Gudas, John Carlson, and Jacob Trouba to free agency.
  • The Penguins inked forward Egor Chinahkov to a three-year, $18.75 million contract extension. He had 18 goals and 36 points in 43 games for Pittsburgh after he was acquired from the Blue Jackets in December for a pair of draft picks. The Penguins also came to terms with Arturs Silovs, Joel Blomqvist, and David Gustafsson.
  • Those Toronto Maple Leafs fans who bought Gavin McKenna jerseys with the No. 72 on them already regret the move. According to Mark Masters, he will wear No. 92 when he makes his NHL debut. He is the fourth player in team history to wear it, joining Jeff O’Neill, Igor Ozhuganov, and Alexander Nylander. It probably won’t take him very long to become the greatest No. 92 in team history.
  • The Brantford Bulldogs announced that they have added Hall of Fame executive Brian Burke as senior advisor to the team’s hockey operations department.
  • NHL Birthday Roll Call, July 6: Harold Starr, George Armstrong, Joe Watson, Bill Plager, Brad Park, Anders Kallur, Ron Duguay, Chris Dingman, Justin Schultz, Eric Comrie, and Jesperi Kotkaniemi.
