The Chicago Blackhawks will be hitting the practice ice this morning, ahead of their game against the Los Angeles Kings tomorrow. While it wasn’t a great night in the AHL, a couple of other prospects had big nights. Let’s get you caught up on all things hockey!
Blackhawks Chirps
- The Blackhawks finally traded forward Lukas Reichel yesterday. He’s heading to the Vancouver Canucks with a 2027 fourth-round pick coming back. The return is underwhelming, but there was little to no value for him on the trade market.
- According to Pierre LeBrun, Reichel asked for a fresh start, and there is no animosity between the two sides.
Reichel had asked for a trade, looking for a better fit elsewhere. Reichel's agent Allain Roy says things were not contentious. He credits Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson for how things were handled. Says they had been discussing it for a while. https://t.co/oSqNFXfWeI

- Todd Welter writes that Riechel might have to take the same path another former Blackhawks forward did to find his place in the NHL.
- We’re happy to have Jeremiah Lee back as a contributor! He took a quick look at Artyom Levshunov a year and a half after the big draft debate of 2024.
- The Rockford IceHogs dropped their second game in a row as they were blanked by the Colorado Eagles 5-0 last night. Drew Commesso allowed four of the five goals, but he was under fire, facing 31 shots. He played much better than the scoresheet says. The IceHogs went 0-for-3 on the penalty kill, which didn’t help. Colorado goaltender Kyle Keyser turned away all 25 shots he faced for his third career AHL shutout.
- Nathan Behm had another big night in the Western Hockey League. He extended his point streak to five games with four assists in the Kamloops Blazers’ 5-4 overtime win over the Medicine Hat Tigers. He has seven goals and 18 points in 11 games.
- John Mustard scored his third goal in four games for Providence College as they tied with the University of St. Thomas.

- On this date in 1964, Bobby Hull scored his 12th career hat trick to lead the Blackhawks to a 5-2 win over the New York Rangers.
- Five years later, Tony Esposito faced his former team, the Montreal Canadiens, for the first time. He made 30 saves to record his first shutout of his historic rookie season. He ended the year with 15 shutouts, which is still the NHL record for rookie netminders.
- In 1975, Esposito posted his 54th career shutout, and Pit Martin scored his 250th career goal in a 4-0 blanking of the Kansas City Scouts.
- In 1988, the Blackhawks snapped their eight-game road winless streak by beating the Quebec Nordiques 7-4. Denis Savard was the offensive hero with a goal and three assists.
- Two years later, Steve Larmer scored eight seconds into overtime to beat the Washington Capitals 3-2. The goal set a new team record for the fastest overtime goal.

NHL Chirps
- The Boston Bruins have been rivals of the Blackhawks since day one, but we need to give them a big stick tap today. One of their best traditions is their annual Halloween visit to local children's hospitals. This year, the players dressed as superheroes while spending time with real heroes.
- The Athletic put together a list of all the best giveaways around the NHL this season. Personally, I want the Alex Ovechkin dental floss dispenser!
- Speaking of Ovechkin, he scored career goal 899 last night against the Columbus Blue Jackets. The goal was also his 137th game-winner, adding to his league record.
