The Chicago Blackhawks have signed Sascha Boisvert to his entry-level contract. The three-year deal, worth $974,167 per season, kicks in right away.

Boisvert’s Path to the NHL

Boisvert was drafted with the 18th overall pick of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. Davidson traded his first-round pick acquired from the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2022 deal for Brandon Hagel, along with a second-round pick, to move up to select him. He had 53 goals and 113 points in 118 games for the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the United States Hockey League.

After being drafted, Boisvert enrolled at the University of North Dakota. He won the NCHC Rookie of the Year after 18 goals and 32 points in his freshman season. However, he transferred to Boston University after UND fired head coach Brad Berry.

The move to Boston did not go well for Boisvert. His season never got going after dealing with some injuries early on. His production dropped to three goals and 17 points in 26 games. He was suspended for one game for fighting and was held out of their Hockey East quarterfinal for reportedly being late to a team workout. By the end of the season, it was pretty clear that he wasn’t a great fit with the Terriers and wasn’t happy playing in Boston. Those things happen, and both sides were ready to move on once the season ended.

Boisvert’s development is now under the Blackhawks direct control. He will get a few games at the NHL level to close out the year. He will bring an edge that the Blackhawks need. He has offensive upside, with a deceptive wrist shot and a powerful one-timer. There isn’t a pass that he can’t make on the ice, and head coach Jeff Blashill will enjoy using his physicality up and down the lineup. It is unclear when he’ll make his NHL debut, as he still has to get his work visa settled.
