It’s another gameday for the Chicago Blackhawks as they host the Vancouver Canucks for their first home game in over a month. It’s also trade deadline day across the National Hockey League. We’ll keep updated on any moves made today, as well as covering Kyle Davidson’s press conference and tonight’s game.

Blackhawks Chirps

  • Andrew Mangianpane, the newest Blackhawk, was not at practice. Head coach Jeff Blashill was unsure if he would be available for tonight’s game.  We do know that he will wear No. 26 with the Blackhawks. He wore No. 88 throughout his entire career, but he is not going to get that number here. After practice, the Blackhawks reassigned Kevin Korchinski to the Rockford IceHogs.
  • You hear the term “asset management” a lot this time of year, and no matter how you feel the rebuild is going, you can’t argue that Davidson got maximum value out of Jason Dickinson from the day he acquired him through Wednesday’s trade.
  • Meanwhile, Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno was very insightful on the eve of what will likely be the final trade deadline day of his career, as he makes a decision on what to do for the rest of this season.
  • ESPN’s Emily Kaplan reported that both the Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild have contacted the Blackhawks about Foligno’s availability. Both of those destinations make a ton of sense. He played 599 games with Columbus and served as their captain, while his brother, Marcus, plays for the Wild.
  • Insider Frank Servalli told CHSN what he’s hearing about what the Blackhawks might do before today’s 2 pm deadline, including Foligno and Ilya Mikheyev.
  • Blackhawks Birthday Roll Call, March 6: Sam Lafferty.

NHL Chirps

  • Defenseman Colton Parayko is not going to the Buffalo Sabres after all. He exercised his no-trade clause to remain with the St. Louis Blues. It’s amazing how these trades get leaked out before a player has even had a chance to make a decision.
  • While we’re not sure who will be in the Blackhawks’ lineup tonight, the Canucks may not be done wheeling and dealing either. Conor Garland’s name keeps popping up in trade talk. The New York Islanders made a strong push for him earlier this week and still could land him. According to Pierre LeBrun, the Columbus Blue Jackets, Washington Capitals, New Jersey Devils, San Jose Sharks, and Boston Bruins have all made offers for the 29-year-old forward.
  • David Perron is heading back to the Detroit Red Wings after being acquired from the Ottawa Senators for a conditional 2026 fourth-round pick. He scored 41 goals and 103 points in his previous two-season stint with the Red Wings in 2022-23 and 2023-24.
  • Staying in Detroit, Elliotte Friedman reported that the Red Wings are in the mix for Robert Thomas and Vincent Trochek. However, as we’ve seen over the past couple of seasons with big trades and free agents, Steve Yzerman feels like he falls just short of landing the big fish.
  • Pittsburgh Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin was given a game misconduct for slashing Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin in the head. The future Hall of Famer will likely get a couple of games off without pay for his stupid actions.
  • NHL Birthday Roll Call, March 6: Buzz Boll, Pete Goegan, Vic Venasky, Daniel Winnik, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Louis Domingue, and Curtis Douglas.
