Boston University's win is a loss for the Chicago Blackhawks

The Chicago Blackhawks have officially added two of their prized prospects to the organization after the University of Minnesota suffered a surprising defeat in the NCAA Tournament.

The team will not be able to add a third top prospect under the same circumstances.

Sam Rinzel and Oliver Moore were eligible to sign their entry-level contracts after the Golden Gophers' season shockingly ended in an overtime defeat to UMass in the Frozen Four's opening round.

While it hurts for Minnesota fans to see their season end so abruptly, it allowed the Blackhawks to convince a couple of their top 10 prospects to turn pro. More importantly, they will get some NHL experience since the Blackhawks have a couple of games left that do not matter since the club is in last place in the Central division.

Getting some NHL experience before going down to Rockford next season can be very helpful in Moore's and Rinzel's development.

It helped Frank Nazar and Landon Slaggert last season. The hope it does the same for Moore and Rinzel.

However, Ryan Greene will not get that opportunity after Boston University advanced to the Frozen Four.

Although Greene would likely prefer having a chance to win a title before starting his pro career.

It is the Blackhawks who would prefer Boston's season ended much like Minnesota's.

Greene is ranked by the Athletic's Scott Wheeler as the Hawks' 12th-best prospect (a subscription is required to access content linked).

His passing ability makes him an ideal center for the Hawks to have in the fold. He has 24 assists during his junior season.

While he is considered a tier-three prospect (someone considered to have the potential to have a productive career), he has played with some elite-level talent at Boston, including Macklin Celebrini, the No. 1 pick in last year's draft.

While Connor Bedard is still trying to make it as a center, it might be worth seeing how Greene could center a line with Connor at the wing. Having Greene in the fold might also fill the team's pursuit of a second-line center and allow Frank Nazar to stay on the same line with Bedard.

He can still sign his entry-level contract after Boston's season ends. However, the soonest it concludes is April 10th, when the Frozen Four semifinal takes place. That means the Blackhawks would only have three games left on a lost season.

If Boston advances to the title game, the Blackhawks would have just two games left. There would not be enough practice time in either case to likely have him ready to skate in an NHL game.

Greene missing out on a chance to play some NHL games is not going to ruin his development. However, it would have been a bonus.
