Does the Chicago Blackhawks’ future finally have a pulse?

Things are starting to look like they will turn around for the better.

The Chicago Blackhawks future might have a shallow pulse. It is faint, but it’s there. This pulse will bring life back to a franchise that has been floundering for a long time now.

With another chance to bring in a generational talent in the upcoming NHL draft on June 7, the Blackhawks can try to be a surprise team in 2025-26. It is a bit of a long shot, considering they had the second-worst record in the NHL.

Great draft position

The Blackhawks have the third overall selection in the upcoming draft, and there is a possibility of grabbing a solid prospect. This new shiny toy could be on display next season, and make an immediate jump and impact on the NHL. They have a young roster already, and they have already gotten some good minutes at top-tier competition.

The New York Islanders and San Jose Sharks hold the first two picks, respectively. The big three prospects in this draft class are James Hagens, Michael Misa, and Matthew Schaefer. Schaefer is the consensus best choice, but with the three teams that are picking, it is truly a toss-up for each of those players.

No matter who falls to the third pick, and is selected by Chicago, they will gain an exceptional player. And, this exceptional player will fit right into this young group of players.

Turning the corner?

With Connor Bedard gaining more and more experience at the NHL level, a young nucleus of Frank Nazar and Lukas Reichel, and a respectable amount of cap space to work with this offseason, the vision is there. It is all a matter of patience and a little bit of luck.

This corner could be turned in 2025-26, although it is very unlikely. There are still a couple of questionable spots on the roster and in the coaching staff. But, the blueprint is there to start competing, sooner rather than later. The Central Division in the Western Conference is a powerhouse, and the Blackhawks are having a hard time keeping up. Very soon, that all can change.

The future is bright in Chicago, and with the return to prominence is soon. This original six franchise has endured heartbreak for too long, and as they continue to gain young pieces, the higher up the NHL ladder they will go. Just a little more patience, it will all be worth it.
