The Chicago Blackhawks have finally called up top forward prospect Frank Nazar from the Rockford IceHogs.
This fall, Nazar struggled in the preseason and failed to make the NHL roster. Since then, the 20-year-old has torn up the AHL. He leads all rookies in scoring with 11 goals and 24 points and is tied for sixth among all AHL players in scoring.
GM Kyle Davidson wanted to let his best prospects such as Nazar, Artyom Levshunov, and Colton Dach mature in Rockford this season, but Nazar is simply playing too well right now and rightfully deserved a call-up.
Despite a four-goal outburst last night against the defensively-sound Islanders, the Hawks need more offense, and Nazar can bring that in bunches.
Hawks fans are hoping to see more of the speed and finishing ability Nazar displayed on this shorthanded goal...
Even though he failed to seize the second-line center role this fall, Nazar should get a shot there when he joins the team.
Nazar briefly played with the Hawks last season after signing his entry-level contract. Nazar skated in three games after deciding to leave Michigan for the Blackhawks. He scored a goal in his NHL debut, which got a lot of Blackhawks fans excited about what the 2022 first-round pick can do for the team's future success.
No one but Davidson knows if this is intended to be a brief or long-term stint for Nazar in the NHL. But, if Nazar can play like he did in Rockford, he will be calling Chicago home for a long time.
