The Chicago Blackhawks took a major step forward in their rebuild by landing three first-round picks in the 2025 NHL Draft. First, they selected Anton Frondell with the third-overall pick.
Frondell was a fantastic addition as the team added the winger that Connor Bedard has been missing. The Blackhawks then selected Valclav Nestrasil with the 25th pick. The pick was originally from the Toronto Maple Leafs, and it looks like a solid coup.
Lastly, the Blackhawks landed the Carolina Hurricanes' first-rounder in a swap of picks and selected Mason West with the 29th overall pick. West was another fine addition. The Blackhawks now have three high-end prospects who provide the club with several great options moving forward.
Now that the first round is in the books, the Blackhawks can move on and focus on their remaining picks.
So, let’s take a look at the best picks the Chicago Blackhawks could take per round.
Best available picks for Chicago Blackhawks, rounds 2-7
Third round
The Blackhawks pick 66th after sending their second-round selections to the Carolina Hurricanes. The Hawks could add Gustav Hillstrom, a Swedish center listed at 6’1” and 174 pounds.
Elite Prospects describes him as a two-way center and a cerebral tactician. If still available at this point, the Blackhawks cannot pass up an opportunity to take another talented center.
Fourth round
The Blackhawks have two fourth-round picks to play with. First, the Blackhawks have their pick at No. 98. Most mock drafts have the Blackhawks taking another forward with this pick. However, Chicago could go on a limb and take a goalie at this pick.
One goalie that stands out is Lucas Beckman. Beckman played with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the QMJHL. He’s 6-foot-2 and isn’t considered big for his size. He’s the second-ranked North American goalie by NHL Central Scouting and would be a fabulous pick if still around at this point.
The Blackhawks pick again at No. 107. This time, the Blackhawks could look at a defenseman. If he is still available, Dakoda Rheaume-Mullen could be a fantastic choice. Rheaume-Mullen played with the University of Michigan last season. He scored three goals in nine points in 35 games. While a bit on the smaller side, he could be a solid addition to the team’s blue-line depth.
Sixth round
The Blackhawks don’t have a fifth-round pick, so we jump to the sixth round. At No. 162, Chicago could take a winger. This pick could be used on Alex Misiak from the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL.
Misiak is from Slovakia and looks like a playmaking winger with plenty of offensive upside for a potential sixth-rounder. He could go higher, perhaps as high as the fourth round, but he could get lost in the shuffle.
If the Blackhawks can grab him in the sixth round, it could be a major steal. But don’t be surprised if Chicago takes him earlier.
Seventh round
The Blackhawks have two seventh-rounders in the 2025 NHL Draft.
At No. 194, the Blackhawks have their pick. The pick could be used on another goaltending prospect, Matthew Koprowski of the Owen Sound Attack of the OHL. He’s a bit bigger at 6-foot-3 and listed as the #9 goalie among North American netminders by NHL Central Scouting.
The Blackhawks will make their last pick of the 2025 NHL Draft at No. 197. This could be used on Will Sharpe, a defenseman from the Kelowna Rockets. Elite Prospects calls him a “do-it-all” defenseman. He’s got a physical side and could be a good addition in the seventh round.
