Chicago Blackhawks remain in the top half of latest NHL Power Rankings

The NHL season has settled in, and with it comes another week of power-ranking chaos. But amongst all the movement, one storyline continues to stand out: the Chicago Blackhawks’ fight to stay relevant in a rapidly shifting league landscape. Whether it’s emerging talent, improved structure and coaching, or simply the young confidence, the Blackhawks have remained a team worth watching.

The Chicago Blackhawks have played 19 games so far this season and are off to a 10-5-4 start. This hot start is unlike anything the team has seen in the last few years. In 2024, the team started 6-12-1, and in 2023, it began the season 6-13-0. This is as late into the season as the Blackhawks have been in a playoff position in many years. While several metrics suggest the team could face some regression, there are also key indicators pointing to stability in the months ahead.

These power rankings are determined mostly by a team's win-loss record, but also by their recent performance, injuries, and the strength of the week's schedule. For example, if teams have similar records or point totals, they will receive a higher ranking based on who they played and the margins of victory. Teams will also be ranked higher or lower depending on how they have played over their last 10 games.

The Hawks Stay Hot

The Calgary Flames' free fall at the beginning of the season continues as the Blackhawks defeat them for the second time already this campaign. Connor Bedard's second hat trick of the season boosts him to fourth in the NHL in points with 29 and tied for second in goals with 13. The Blackhawks are currently on a six-game point streak (5-0-1), which has boosted them to ninth in our latest power rankings.

During this point streak, they have scored 25 goals while allowing 11. Spencer Knight and Arvid Soderblom have played a crucial role all season, but both had a season-high number of saves during this streak (Knight with 43 at Vancouver and Soderblom with 45 at Detroit). Bedard has tallied seven goals while Tyler Bertuzzi has added six of his own during this streak, even while missing time in the last couple of games.

Looking Ahead

This next slate of games provides more opportunities for wins as they play at home versus Seattle (11/20), at Buffalo (11/21), and again at home versus Colorado (11/23). If the Blackhawks are to win against Seattle and Buffalo, then that would continue a good stretch. The Avalanche will be a good measuring stick to see how well the team is actually performing.
