Over the last couple of weeks, there has been much discourse surrounding the Chicago Blackhawks' current state.

Despite being an improved roster on paper, the team has been unable to elevate their game as expected. The frustration has been weighing on fans and the players, who all know this team should be better than their record shows.

A common theme for the Blackhawks this season has been the ability to keep the score close, but not have the offense to pull ahead for a win.

The Blackhawks endured a difficult loss to the Anaheim Ducks, a team they have beaten once this season and were expected to come out on top once again.

A strong showing by Connor Bedard and Jason Dickinson gave the Blackhawks the lead twice, but those were the only times the offense found the back of the net. The third period saw Anaheim comeback and win the game 3-2, handing a frustrating loss to the Blackhawks.

However, their next game against the reigning Stanley Cup champion Florida Panthers went much differently. The Blackhawks had a strong defensive showing and held Florida to one goal leading to a 3-1 win that will be huge for the team's confidence.

Though the team is coming off a big win, it is apparent that the Blackhawks' offensive struggles need to be addressed.

NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman spoke about a possible trade target for the Blackhawks on his 32 Thoughts segment, that being Morgan Frost of the Philadelphia Flyers.

Frost was a player who many wondered if he would get traded out of Philidelphia over the summer, but no move was made with the 25-year old center.

Morgan Frost could be worth taking a chance on as a player looking for a change of scenery and has proven he can be a capable NHL center.

What does Morgan Frost bring to the table?

Frost was drafted 27th overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft by the Flyers and quickly became one of their most talented prospects after back-to-back one-hundred-plus point seasons for the Soo Greyhounds in the OHL.

He would then spend the next couple of seasons splitting time between the Flyers in the NHL and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in the AHL.

Throughout his time in the NHL, Frost has proven that he can be a secondary scorer after eclipsing 40 points in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. In those years, his best came in 2022-23 with 19 goals and 46 points in 81 games, a career-high in all categories.

Currently, Frost has 245 NHL games under his belt and has tallied 116 points.

Frost also brings stability in the faceoff circle, with a career average of 47.9% at the dot.

While he has shown the ability to be an NHL contributor, Frost has struggled recently to stay consistently in the lineup.

Recently being scratched in four of the Flyers' last five games, Frost has not been able to win over Flyers' coach John Tortorella during his tenure.

Although he has not been able to be a true mainstay in the lineup, Frost brings attributes to his game that other teams would certainly find value in.

Why Frost could fit in with the Blackhawks...

It is no secret that the Blackhawks' offense is in desperate need of some improvements. The constant shaking-up of the forward lines even attests to their being some level of panic to get a spark up-front.

Bringing in a player like Frost gives the Blackhawks an NHL-caliber option who can provide more secondary scoring and has a high hockey IQ.

Frost brings offensive capabilities that could hopefully reach new heights in an increased role, and he also fills the void at the center position for the Blackhawks.

Recently, Connor Bedard has been playing the win alongside Jason Dickinson and Joey Anderson. An addition like Frost can give the team a skilled option to play at center with a solid track record of winning faceoffs.

Frost is also at an age where he can certainly become a part of the future in Chicago if he plays well enough. Players who are 25 years old are nearing their prime, and a chance to become a top contributor on a new team could do wonders for Frost.

It is clear that a change of scenery is needed for Frost and the price it would take to acquire him likely would not be very high right now, making him a low-risk option.

Frost is in the last year of his contract, making 2.2 million dollars, and has the skill that teams could see the value in buying low on.

With the Blackhawks playing in Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon, it will be interesting to see if Frost is able to draw into the lineup.

The current struggles of the team warrant some kind of change to be made, and trading for a player like Frost could be one worth taking a flyer on.
