The Chicago Blackhawks' rebuild is showing promise as the team looks ahead to the future.

Despite the 3-0 shutout loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Monday, the Blackhawks have played well recently, going 3-1-2 in their last six games.

Incorporating Young Talent

The Blackhawks made significant moves to their roster before the NHL trade deadline on March 7 by adding more young players to the roster.

On March 1, they acquired Spencer Knight from the Florida Panthers for Seth Jones. At the deadline, they acquired Joe Veleno from the Detroit Red Wings for Petr Mrazek and Craig Smith.

These moves show the Blackhawks commitment to youth, as they went out and acquired younger talent instead of holding on to aging veterans.

Blackhawks Next Core

This is Connor Bedard's team. That was made it clear before he was ever an official member of the franchise when the team traded Patrick Kane in 2023 and announced Jonathan Toews would be allowed to become a free agent after the 2022-23 season concluded.

Chicago is now looking for the right pieces to support him whether it will be through free agency or trades this offseason. Plus, the Hawks have some guys currently in the NHL or in their prospect who can help him win such as...

  • Spencer Knight: In his Blackhawks debut, Knight delivered an outstanding performance, stopping 41 of 42 shots faced in a 5-1 win over the LA Kings on March 3.
  • Artyom Levshunov: Levshunov made his NHL debut this past Monday in the Blackhawks' 3-0 shutout loss to the Colorado Avalanche. Despite the loss, he had a great debut and will be a key player for the Blackhawks' blue line in the future.
  • Nick Lardis: Lardis has been lights out for the Brantford Bulldogs during the 2024-25 OHL Season, scoring 70 goals in 61 games. His scoring prowess positions him as a future offensive powerhouse for the Blackhawks.

Let's not forget Frank Nazar has been playing well since getting called up to the NHL.

Challenges and Expectations

Despite playing well the last couple of games, Chicago will need to maintain consistency and elevate its play heading into next season.

After "getting rid of the distractions," according to Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno, Chicago expects to improve heading into next season with its young. talented roster.

The Blackhawks' rebuild is generating excitement but consistency, growth, and strong performances will be key in these final 17 games. While they won't be a playoff team this year, this stretch will be crucial in order of setting the tone for the future.
