With all the noise around Connor Bedard's next contract, the fact that the 20-year-old may be appointed as the next captain of the Blackhawks has been put on the back burner as a talking point for fans.
When Bedard has a letter on his jersey, he plays with an edge and a mentality that allows him to single-handedly will his team back into games. He plays like a leader, like a captain.
Would having that responsibility at such a young age change anything for Bedard? When asked, he had this to say:
"It would be such an honor, it wouldn't really change much [...] you don't want to get something and then try to be something different [...] If i get it, I get it for a reason, so, try to be myself and stuff."
"We got a lot of good leaders. so it'll be easy, but hopefully I get it."
It sounds like Bedard is not only ready - but he wants it. This is Bedard's team: he is the star, the cornerstone they are building around, and the face of the franchise. He is likely going to be the next Blackhawk to wear the "C".
Will Kyle Davidson make a big swing?
There have been a few blockbuster trades around the league as we approach the upcoming NHL Entry Draft on Friday, June 26, and Blackhawks fans are begging Kyle Davidson to make a splash.
Connor Bedard is going to be entering his fourth season in the NHL and is yet to have anthing close to an elite talent to work with.
With names floating around like Matthew Knies, Jason Robertson, and Alex Tuch, there is plenty of opportunity for the Blackhawks to give Bedard someone to work with.
When asked about a potential additions, Bedard has this to say:
"It's hard to trade for those guys...they're good players, whether we get one or not, we got a lot of good players, so we'll see what happens"
You can't blame Bedard for having a positive outlook on the current roster. Steps forward from Oliver Moore, Nick Lardis, Artyom Levshunov, Sam Rinzel, Ryan Greene, Spencer Knight, and a full season of Anton Frondell and Roman Kantserov will certainly help the team improve and compete for a playoff spot next season and beyond.
But at a certain point, this team needs some elite, experienced talent to push them to the next level
