Could Blackhawks legends Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews reunite on the Maple Leafs?

Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane might be the greatest superstar duo the Chicago Blackhawks have ever had.

Those who were around to watch Bobby Hull and Stan Mikita can argue those two legends already have statues outside the United Center. However, it is just a matter of time before Kane and Toews' numbers are lifted to the UC rafters and an artist is commissioned to erect statues for them.

Kane and Toews led the Hawks to the greatest stretch of hockey for a franchise about to celeberate 100 years of exstience.

Plus, Hull and Mikita won one Stanley Cup. Toews and Kane won three, with Toews winning the Conn Smythe during the 2010 run and Kane getting the honors in 2013.

The problem was that the organization could never get those two icons back to the Stanley Cup Finals after 2015. The rebuild stage the franchise entered during the 2022-23 season led to both superstars departing the franchise.

Kane's trade request to the New York Rangers was granted, and the team announced Toews would not be re-signed after the end of that season. It was the end of a golden era.

Kane ended up moving on to Detroit, where he continued to prove his game will age well. Toews took time away from the NHL the past two seasons to allow his body to heal up after battling long COVID and other health issues. Now recovered, Toews is ready to make a comeback.

Could both end up skating together in Toronto?

Kane is set to join Toews on the free agent market. There is some speculation that they both could end up signing with the Maple Leafs as the team tries to tinker with their roster to finally make a deep run in the playoffs.

Kane has also been linked to the Maple Leafs as a potential cheaper replacement for when the franchise loses Mitch Marner in free agency. Toews has been tied to the Leafs as a replacement for John Tavares if he walks in free agency.

The Leafs have the salary cap space to slot both legends into the fold.

However, a reunion might happen with them shaking hands before the game as opponents. Kane has given the indication he might return to Detroit. While Toews and Kane won championships, Kane has loved skating with Alex DeBrincat just as much, whether in Chicago or Detroit. Their children have become so tight that Kane half-jokingly cited that as a reason he would return to the Red Wings.

Toews might also be drawn to ending his career in his hometown of Winnipeg. The Jets are reportedly interested in seeing what Toews has left.

While it would be great for hockey, while being weird for Chicago, to see Kane and Toews back together on the same team, it is just a bunch of logical jumping to conclusions at this point.
