The Chicago Blackhawks have had plenty of dynamic forward duos over the years. In recent times, Kane-Toews, Hossa-Sharp, Kane-Panarin, Kane-DeBrincat, and Bedard-(insert any of his never-ending list of linemates here) are some of the most notable that come to mind.
The Blackhawks could have another elite connection currently in development: Frank Nazar and Nick Lardis. Since Lardis' long-overdue promotion to the second line, he has amassed four points in his last two games. This includes a three-point effort in Tuesday's win over the New York Islanders.
Nazar and Lardis' games complement each other
The reason to feel optimistic that this Nazar-Lardis duo can continue to find success in the long term is that their games work well in tandem with each other.
They are both fast players with plenty of skill in their respective arsenals. Pair Nazar's playmaking vision with Lardis' bomb of a shot, and you have a pairing that will be a problem for other teams to combat as the two can put up numbers together on the regular.
It is nice to see Jeff Blashill give Lardis an opportunity with Nazar on the second line after a long stretch of playing fourth-line minutes since being recalled from Rockford after the trade deadline. Lardis used that period to work on his defensive game and become a stronger all-around player. Those efforts are showing as Lardis has performed well on both sides of the ice of late.
And the results are showing with his promotion. Lardis is rewarding Blashill for giving him the chance by getting on the scoresheet and being that driver on offense that he has the potential to be.
He has earned more runway in the top six with his performance of late. Lardis did not score 71 goals in juniors by accident; he is a player who has that game-breaking ability.
Lardis making strides forward in his game is great for Nazar as well. He could be that ideal guy to play on his wing for years to come. Like Bedard, Nazar has seen his fair share of linemates the past couple of seasons. It would be nice to see a consistent option with a player at his level. Lardis may be that player for him.
If Chicago has indeed found something with these two, this will give them a future offensive core to salivate over. With Bedard and Anton Frondell up front on line one, Nazar-Lardis could be a dangerous secondary supporting cast to back them up.
In addition to those duos, Sacha Boisvert will be looking to make his mark as he makes his debut tonight. Not to mention, the thought of adding Roman Kantserov in the mix next season and what he can provide up front. Add in a hopeful, full, healthy year of Oliver Moore as well, and the Blackhawks should be scoring plenty more goals in the 26-27 campaign.
Fun times appear to be ahead in Chicago as this group continues to grow and develop. This should be an exciting team to watch next year in what projects to be one of the youngest squads in the league.
