How the Blackhawks can solve their scoring drought vs Senators

The Chicago Blackhawks are just not able to score goals, but maybe this adjustment will do wonders for the team.

If there were a class for the Chicago Blackhawks called "How to Score 101: What to Do in a Slump," I'm pretty sure "not shooting the puck" would be on the agenda. In fact, it should be the exact opposite. Wayne Gretzky once said, "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." The Blackhawks are seemingly allergic to shooting the puck, despite having a roster quite capable of depth scoring. So, what's going on? Why can't the Blackhawks score?

Adjustments to be Made

First adjustment, one that has been in the NHL for a century by now: "If you can't score, simplify the game and just get guys in front of the net." Yes, I am aware that the zebras seem to have a personal vendetta against the Blackhawks that includes they can't touch the goalie whatsoever, even if it's puck-first. However, the team should take notes from the arcade game "Pinball" and attempt to recreate that in front of the net. Get guys in front, just not in the blue paint.

Heck, maybe take a page out of the Boston Bruins' book when they would place Zdeno Chara in front of the net on the power play, or the Blackhawks putting Dustin Byfuglien right in front of the net. You can't move them, and the goalie has trouble seeing the puck. The Blackhawks have 6'8 Louis Crevier that they could use like this. While the only way the goalie can see is around or underneath, shoot the puck high.

With Connor Bedard out for a while, the Blackhawks should keep in mind that the game sometimes has to be ugly to be beautiful. There is just too much passing, not enough urgency to shoot. This works if the line is scoring regularly, but when they can't seem to buy offense these days, the mindset should be to fire the puck. That's it, and it's simple. Just fire the puck, get traffic in front, and crash the net.
