Many Chicago Blackhawks fans were not happy when the new station carrying Hawks games, CHSN, was not available on Comcast's Xfinity.
Those same fans might be grateful now that they do not have to watch this team lose on a nightly basis.
The Blackhawks are once again the worst team in the NHL despite an offseason where the goal was to raise the standards. Watching the Hawks has been rough the past couple of seasons as the franchise is undergoing a massive rebuild.
This season might be the hardest to watch of them all.
The 2022-23 season had the Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane farewell tour theme. While it was annoying to keep wondering when Kane would authorize a trade and being denied Toews' appearing because of his health issues, it was still fun to savor seeing both on the ice before they were bound to part with the franchise.
Last season, you had the newness of Connor Bedard and watching him be phenomenal on most nights.
It was also cool to see Jason Dickinson have a career season. Nick Foligno, being the unofficial hockey dad, was also neat. Petr Mrazek staying healthy and being solid in goal was also a welcomed sight.
This season, there is none of that.
Instead, you have Connor Bedard going through a sophomore slump when it comes to scoring goals. It got to the point that you had to wonder if Blackhawks' head coach Luke Richardson was pulling off the impossible and ruining Bedard with his constant shuffling of linemates.
The team struggles to score goals on a nightly basis, which leads to defeats. When the team does score goals on some nights, then it is an effort issue that leads to the team losing. If it is not either, then it is guys being out of position on defense.
The reasons for losing just keep piling up and this was supposed to be the season where that stopped.
This was supposed to be the season where the Hawks were going to stop being at the top of the Tankathon standings. Heck, this should be the season where the Blackhawks establish a win streak because this club has not done that in a while.
Instead, losing streaks keep happening consistently, much like the past two seasons. The Hawks are in the middle of their second four-game losing streak. They have gone 2-7-1 over their past ten games.
The hope was the season would not be unofficially over by early December, but that is what is happening, and nothing is alluring to watch on this team right now.
