Blackhawks Chirps
- Our Blackhawks Number History series continued as we looked at all the players who have worn numbers 26-30 in franchise history.
- Wyatt Kaiser proved last season that he belongs in the NHL and established himself as part of the Blackhawks’ young core. Brooke LoFurno examined if his two-way game will grow in the upcoming season.
- We had a fun episode of the CHGO Blackhawks Podcast on Thursday, as we came up with our list of the all-time greatest NHL players and the five biggest villains in Blackhawks history. We started with the GOATs and ended by boiling our blood as we remembered some of the most hated players over the years.
- On this date in 1969, the Hockey Hall of Fame revealed its latest induction class, which included former Blackhawk Sid Abel, Red Kelly, Roy Worters, Bryan Hextall Sr., and Bruce Norris.
- Blackhawks Birthday Roll Call, Aug. 21: Brandon Davidson and Dominik Kubalik.
NHL Chirps
- The Blackhawks will play the Ottawa Senators in Dusseldorf, Germany, this December. The NHL announced that the Global Series will return to Germany in 2027-28, with the Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers playing in Munich and Cologne. The Bruins will draw plenty of interest in Munich with J.J. Peterka, Lukas Reichel, and head coach Marco Sturm. Oilers star Leon Draisaitl will play in his hometown of Cologne. Their opponents will be announced at some point during the upcoming season.
- The Columbus Blue Jackets have had a strange offseason. In addition to dealing with trade speculation surrounding Zach Werenski and Kirill Marchenko, they have yet to sign restricted free agent Adam Fantilli to his contract extension. Things didn’t get any better on Thursday when they learned that they will likely start the season without goaltender Elvis Merzlikins. The team announced that the netminder underwent shoulder surgery on Monday and did not have a timetable for his return.
- Joe Pavelski is proving that you can go home again. The former NHL star will be joining the University of Wisconsin as Director of Player Development. He played two seasons for the Badgers before embarking on a successful NHL career, scoring 476 goals and 1,068 points in 1,332 games for the San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars.
- One day after acquiring him from the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Anaheim Ducks signed Cruz Lucius to an entry-level contract. He will likely spend his first professional season with the San Diego Gulls in the AHL.
