Chicago Blackhawks legend Jonathan Toews is thinking about making a comeback.

That is what the captain of the Hawks' three Stanley Cup-winning teams hinted at in a recent interview with GQ. It is the first in-depth interview he has done since fading away from the game after his final appearance at the United Center in April of 2023.

Toews dived into his health issues and how his turning to alternative healing methods has helped him recover from physical ailments that limited him from getting onto the ice toward the end of his Blackhawk career.

Now recovered, he might make a return to the NHL.

The hope for some in the Hawks' fan base would be he just officially retires after the Blackhawks announced they would not be bringing him back after his contract ran out at the conclusion of the 2022-23 season.

He got the hero's farewell when he scored a goal during his final game in a Blackhawks sweater. Plus, there is not much for him to accomplish in the game.

Toews did announce he would step away from the game after his final game with the Hawks. During his time off, he has looked practically retired.

Now that he is feeling better, it would not be surprising to see him want to get back onto the ice.

While it would be painful to see Captain Serious wear another team's sweater, it would be acceptable if he returned to the game with his hometown team, the Winnipeg Jets.

He might not return in time to help the Jets this season, but if he did return for next season, he would be joining a franchise that still should be a contender.

Key players such as forward Nikolaj Ehlers and defenseman Neal Pionk are set for unrestricted free agency after the season. Otherwise, core players such as winger Kyle Connor, center Mark Scheifele, defenseman Josh Morrissey, and goalie Connor Hellebuyck are locked up for the 2025 season and beyond.

TSN's John Lu made the case in February of 2023 for why Toews would be a great fit for the Jets.

A contender can always use a two-way center who wins faceoffs. The only concern would be how much does Toews have left in the tank. He will be 37 if he returns next season.

It would be hard to see him reunite with Patrick Kane if only because it would be on the Detroit Red Wings. Going to Toronto would also not be fun to see since he would be joining an overrated franchise (every year is supposed to be the Leafs year and it still has not happened).

You can rule out a reunion with the Hawks. The franchise has moved on with Connor Bedard as the face of the franchise and Nick Foligno as the captain.

Going back home and maybe winning another Cup with the Jets, well, that would be the next best thing to him staying retired.
