Patrick Kane approaching more career milestones in 2026-27

Kane's return to Chicago comes as he nears more achievements in NHL history in one category and another in Blackhawks franchise history.

Let's state the obvious: Patrick Kane is a future Hall of Famer, and most of that resume has come in a Chicago Blackhawks sweater. It includes the three Stanley Cups, the Conn Smythe Trophy, the Calder Trophy, beating Bobby Hull's franchise point-streak record of 22 straight games with a point (Kane had 26 games), and more.

It isn't "Showtime" without Kane being recognized for breaking records. Just last season, he reached the 500-career-goals mark and broke Mike Modano's NHL record for most points by a U.S. born player after reaching 1,375 points.

Next season, he's back in Chicago, and more career milestones are in reach.

Kane approaching 900 career assists

That headline probably doesn't come as a surprise to many, since Kane has been known throughout his career for his play-making ability.

Right now, he sits at 892 career assists, making him only eight away from 900. The next closest to him is Evgeni Malkin (Pittsburgh Penguins) with 874 career assists (26 away from 900).

Kane's 892 assists have him 22nd all-time in the NHL. He's only three away from jumping Phil Housley (894) for 21st all-time. Regarding how far he can take it, Kane's 82-game assist average is 53. With the Detroit Red Wings last season, he had 41 assists in 67 games. It seems very reasonable to believe he can match that number, maybe even more, playing alongside players like Connor Bedard.

Kane chasing more Blackhawks' records; in proximity of games-played

Kane is signed for two years in Chicago, and he will continue building on his Blackhawks' records. During his time with the Blackhawks, he was second in the franchise in assists (779) and points (1,225), third in goals (446), and third in games played (1,161).

He still has some work to do to break Stan Mikita's assists, points, and goals in a Hawks sweater. Bobby Hull leads the franchise in goals (604), but Kane will certainly make it interesting during the rest of his tenure.

Next season, keep an eye on Kane becoming second in franchise history in games played. He's only 32 games away from breaking Duncan Keith's 1,192 games, and, obviously, he will make some more NHL history when he reaches 900 assists.

These milestones are even more significant for Blackhawks in 2026-27

What's great, specifically, about watching Kane close in on the 900-assist milestone is seeing how he will achieve it, because those assists will lift his team and teammates on the scoresheet. It's exactly why he wanted to come back- to help.

He said regarding his return last month, in part, "I feel like for me... you know, obviously the story's great coming back to Chicago, and being a Blackhawk again, and kind of where I spend my summers and Chicago being my home. I think all that is great. But I think, most importantly, it was just about coming to a team where I think I can fit in well. A team that's on the rise. A team that's looking to make some big steps forward and trying to make the playoffs. And, you know, like I talked about all that other stuff, I think all that's great, but that's not why I'm here. That's not the story, right? It's to come back, help this team win, and help this team get in the playoffs..."

It will mean a lot to Blackhawks fans to be able to witness Kane continue to make history, and more notably, it being done in a Blackhawks sweater.
