3 Chicago Blackhawks prospects who have the most to prove at Tom Kurvers Showcase

These three Blackhawks prospects need to have a good showcase, especially two of them who hope to make the NHL roster.

The Chicago Blackhawks prospects will be on display this weekend at the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase.

While Artyom Levshunov, the team's top draft pick this year, will not play in it after a foot injury, other prospects in the Hawks' top 10 farm system will have a showcase to provide some hope for the future.

Three prospects have a lot to prove in this showcase...

Frank Nazar

He is one of the few prospects with a legit shot to make the opening night roster for the Blackhawks. Nazar is pegged to be the second-line center of the future.

Most line projections have Andreas Athanasiou centering that line while Nazar refines his game in Rockford.

There is speculation that if Frank impresses in camp, the front office will be willing to speed up his development timeline and have him start the season in the NHL.

His first step in making his case is to show out at this showcase. He might not score a hat trick as Connor Bedard did last year. Also, Nazar is more of a facilitator than a goal-scorer as evidenced by the eight assists he dished out at the World Juniors.

It would be great to see him match that type of production relative to playing just two games as in this showcase.

Landon Slaggert

He is the other prospect who has a legit shot to make the opening night roster in Utah. Slaggert skated in 16 games for the Hawks after he finished his senior year at Notre Dame.

He scored a goal along with three assists in 16 games. The chatter is with the Hawks adding veteran talent in the offseason, it will knock Slaggert down to the IceHogs.

It cannot hurt for him to get some time in Rockford to refine his game. The front office has viewed him as a certain third-line player with the potential to be a regular on the top line. Getting ice time with the IceHogs is one way to help him reach his ceiling.

However, Hawks general manager Kyle Davidson has said he brought in veterans to push the prospects to earn NHL ice time. If Slaggert shines here, it would give him momentum going into camp to compete for a spot on the third or fourth line.

Colton Dach

Injuries last season limited him to 48 games for the IceHogs. Those injuries sort of made him forgotten as an exciting prospect the Blackhawks have.

He is now healthy and this is an opportunity to give Hawks fans a chance to rediscover him as a valuable piece of the team's future.
