Blackhawks once again prove they’re one of the NHL’s most valuable franchises
The Chicago Blackhawks and a few other Original Six franchises forged their spot among the NHL’s most iconic in 2024-25.
As an Original Six club, the Chicago Blackhawks are one of the first teams people think of when someone utters the word ‘NHL,’ whether or not they’re a hockey fan. Chicago, with its massive fanbase, six championships, and nearly a century’s worth of iconic players, clocked in once more among the NHL’s elite.
No, not with their on-ice product, as that will take a while before it’s competitive again, but its overall valuation. They ranked fourth in the NHL in 2024 at $1.84 billion, behind only the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, and Montreal Canadiens.
The Hawks also ranked rather well against their cousins in the five major North American pro sports leagues, clocking in at 83rd overall. While the NHL still lags behind the NFL, MLB, and NBA, the Hawks were more valuable than every MLS franchise and 13 MLB organizations.
Blackhawks remain one of the most valuable franchises in the NHL for 2024
They still remain a far cry behind the 30th-ranked NBA franchise, the New Orleans Pelicans, who currently sit at $2.72 billion. But you can’t say the same for the Toronto Maple Leafs, who sit right behind New Orleans in the rankings at $2.65 billion and 73rd overall, so they’re within striking distance.
Still, there’s a good chance the Blackhawks will find themselves among the next handful of NHL organizations to hit the $2 billion threshold. If they get there, Chicago will be just the fourth NHL franchise to reach that coveted milestone, while the Boston Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, and Philadelphia Flyers, are also fast risers.
So, you might be wondering who took the top spot overall, and that would be, once again, the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys at $10.32 billion while the NBA’s Golden State Warriors sit in second, at $8.28 billion. Finally, the New York Yankees are third on the list at $7.93 billion, and following them is basically the rest of the NFL, sans a few NBA and MLB teams.
