The Chicago Blackhawks went defense with the No. 2 overall pick when the team selected Artyom Levshunov over Russian forward Ivan Demidov.
General manager Kyle Davidson still managed to address adding more talent to the forward prospect group in the first round. The Blackhawks selected Sacha Boisvert with the No. 18 overall pick, the team's other first-round pick
He is six feet, two inches tall and 176 pounds. He has good size and hopefully can add more bulk to his frame.
The Athletic's Scott Wheeler ranked him as the 24th-best prospect in the draft (a subscription is required to access the link) after he scored 36 goals for the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the USHL. He can be very physical on the ice based on his boxing background (a subscription is required to access the link).
TSN's Bob McKenzie rated Boisvert as the 22nd-best prospect in the draft. This might be viewed as a reach especially since the Blackhawks traded up two spots earlier this month.
Not sure the Blackhawks needed to give up a second-round pick to move up two spots a month before the draft to take Sacha Boisvert, but hockey people like Boisvert a lot.

The Blackhawks jumped up two spots after a trade with the New York Islanders. They took Cole Eiserman who fell in the draft. Eiserman was viewed as the better prospect too. Wheeler ranked as the seventh-best prospect and McKenzie rated at No. 14. It will be interesting to see if the Blackhawks
However, the Hawks could use more prospects who can move toward the net with the puck and not get knocked off along the way.
NHL scouting chief Dan Marr said Boisvert has grit:

"When push comes to shove, he’s going to make sure he comes out on top. … When he’s on his game, he’s front and center and you notice when he’s on the ice. He’s a very hard player to check (and) very hard player to stop."
While he can lay the wood on the ice, he is a good skater and shooter.
Boisvert tallied 68 points in 61 games with Muskegon of the USHL this past season (coincidentally, the same stat line Bedard has in the NHL).

He's a 6-2 center known for skating (surprise, surprise) and shooting. He had 36 goals vs. 32 assists.
Good skating skills are one of the four traits the Blackhawks crave in their prospects. The Blackhawks could use size among their forward prospects.
His floor appears to be a third-line center while there is the potential to be a top-six player.
Our @coreypronman on Boisvert: "The believers in him see major offensive upside. I see more of a potential third-line center, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest he could be a second-line player if he hits."

Boisvert is committed to playing college hockey at North Dakota next season. That is where Blackhawks legend Jonathan Toews played before he came to Chicago. It is a good program for Boisvert to add some bulk and continue to work on his game as he is still not ready for the NHL.
The Hawks have had no trouble with their prospects playing another year in the juniors or getting some college hockey experience. Frank Nazar III was the Blackhawks 2022 first-round pick and spent time getting ready for the NHL at Michigan.
The hope is Boisvert puts on some more muscle, shines at a top-flight college level, and eventually adds some skill on a cheap entry-level deal just as it comes time to pay Connor Bedard a good portion of the team's salary cap space.
