On the other end of the matchup was Notre Dame and captain Landon Slaggert, who put together a strong weekend despite his season eventually coming to an end.
Slaggert opened the scoring on Friday night with a first-period goal.
With Notre Dame's season on the line, Slaggert gave it his all by adding another goal and an assist on Saturday night for a three-point weekend. His goal was a second period equalizer on the power play and his assist helped Notre Dame take a 3-2 lead in the same period.
In 36 games with Notre Dame, Slaggert finished the year with 31 points on 20 goals and 11 assists. He led the team in goals and points, and finished fifth on the team in assists.
Not only is Slaggert's season over, but so is his college career. The senior captain put together an excellent run in South Bend and can now sign with the Blackhawks at any time, which he has stated he plans to do.
With the Blackhawks struggling offensively and being decimated by injuries this year, there hasn't been much to be excited about at the NHL level. A reinforcement like Slaggert, however, could be on the way soon and can give the team a little boost down the stretch.
