Our Captain is our Captain for a reason. He has won at the highest level at every stage of his career. For 15 seasons he has been an on ice and in the locker room leader for the Chicago Blackhawks. He earned an 8 year / 84 million dollar contract with a no movement clause based on these factors. He doesn't owe us anything more.

He certainly doesn't owe us an answer on if he wants to waive said no movement clause and finish his career with a new team. On the other side of that equation, he doesn't owe us an explanation if he intends to stay for the rest of the season. Still, after 2 weeks in which he has done a few interviews, we hang on his every word.

I think, at this stage of his career, it is important to cherish every game we see him wearing a Blackhawk jersey with a C on the left part of his chest. It is rare to have a Captain for this long, true. It's even more so that it comes with 3 Stanley Cups and countless memories that will endure a lifetime of good evocations.

As we enter the final month until the trade deadline, let's all remember that Jonathan Toews is a human being. Not an asset. He has given it his all for this team and this city. We owe him privacy, respect, and all the time he needs in order to make the best decision for him... not us.

This article is a simple reminder that we are extremely lucky to have such an amazing person representing the team we all love so much. Here's to you Captain.
