Blackhawks goalie Marc-Andre Fleury won has won 500 NHL games.
Fleury might not be remembered as a Chicago Blackhawk when he calls it a career, but being able to take part in the historic landmark of an NHL goaltender hitting 500 wins is pretty cool. Fleury did it with 376 wins in Pittsburgh, 117 in Vegas, and eight in Chicago.
Fleury is the third goaltender in NHL history to hit the 300 mark behind only Martin Brodeur (691) and Patrick Roy (551), two of the NHL's all time best goaltenders. It is fitting that Fleury won the game with a shutout, as he is 14th in the league in shutouts now with 69 during his career thus far.
Fleury is a future hall of fame goaltender who has already won numerous championships and is still won of the best in the league. While the season did not start off on the right note in Chicago, this victory shows he still can steal a game for his team. His teammates were excited to celebrate with him following the win.
Fleury made 30 saves on the night during the shutout win, including some highlight reel saves along the way. If you did happen to miss the game here is the recap from the matchup:
Next up for the Hawks and Fleury are the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. That is definitely going to be a tough matchup as the Maple Leafs are one of the top teams in the league. The game could also be Fleury's fourth start in a row. In Fleury's past five games he has given up only three goals or less four out of those five times. Hopefully his next game will be as good.
Congratulations to Marc-Andre Fleury on the amazing accomplishment of getting 500 career wins in the NHL. Here is to a lot more this season and beyond!
