As the season winds down, most Blackhawks fans have now transitioned to waiting for the (*May 6th or 7th rumored per Flo Hockey's Frank Seravalli) Draft Lottery. While that will be a significant day in the rebuild process (currently in position to draft in the top 4 picks) there is still some hockey left to play.
Today's matchup against the Dallas Stars (3:30 EDT at the United Center) will mark just 7 games left in a season that by all accounts went about how most expected. Sitting in the 31st position in the league, the Hawks will face a team that is in the 2nd position in the league. With 105 points in the season, the Stars are still have a chance at this year's President's Trophy.
Just 3 points back of the Rangers and a game in hand, Dallas could cap off an impressive season by earning the #1 seed in the western conference. Players such as Wyatt Johnston, Mason Marchment, and Thomas Harley have added an element to an already good team that many playoff teams lack; elite depth at all positions.
Before the season, Blackhawk Up made a Stanley Cup prediction... The Dallas Stars would hoist Lord Stanley's cup this season. Thus far, we can't say that is still not a fair guess as the Stars look to have just as good of a chance in what looks like one of the more open fields in quite some time.
If the Blackhawks are going to have a chance today, it's going to come on the stick of their top line. Philipp Kurashev and Connor Bedard, the team's top 2 scorers, have found some chemistry throughout the season and it's likely going to have to continue for the Blackhawks to have a chance today in this home matchup against one of the league's elite rosters.
