How did two former Chicago Blackhawks play in the New York Ranger vs. Washington Capitals first-round series?
Artemi Panarin was a key part of the New York Rangers sweep of the Washington Capitals. That means Dylan Strome's season is over.
The Chicago Blackhawks may not be in the Stanley Cups playoffs, but there are still some former players chasing an opportunity to raise Lord Stanley's Cup.
Artemi Panarin won the Calder Trophy for the Blackhawks and his trade to Columbus represented the beginning of the Hawks crumbling into the abyss of perennially being in the NHL Draft Lottery.
He moved on to New York and has advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals after the Rangers swept the Washington Capitals.
The Caps have former Blackhawk Dylan Strome on the roster and he has thrived in Washington.
So how did they play in the first-round series?
Panarin scored the go-ahead goal for the Rangers in Game 4.
He had two goals and an assist in the series. Panarin bounced back after last year's playoffs where he registered just two assists in seven games. He averaged 19:06 of ice time against the Capitals. He graded out as the fifth-best player in the Rangers' Game 4 clincher according to HockeyStatCards.
Strome had the secondary assist in Washington's first goal in Game 4. It was his only assist in the series. Strome did score a goal in Game 2 for his other point in the series. He averaged 20:20 on the ice in four games against the Rangers.
Strome had a good offensive grade in Game 4, but like most of his nights with the Blackhawks, he did not help much on defense.
The two-way game has been a hole in the center's game.
The Rangers are trying to become the first President's Cup-winning team in 11 years to also win the Stanley Cup. That was when the Blackhawks won the second of their three Stanley Cups last decade.
