We’ve been talking about Roman Kantserov joining the Chicago Blackhawks for quite some time, and now it looks like it will officially happen very soon. As first reported by Daria Tubolsteva of sports.ru, the young Russian forward is expected to sign his three-year entry-level contract with the Blackhawks. Not long after that, Metallurg Magnitogorsk officially announced that they had terminated the remainder of his contract so he could move on to the NHL.
⚡️ Спасибо, Роман!

Chicago is Waiting, Roman
Kantserov was drafted in the second round of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft (44th overall). He was coming off a huge season in the MHL, Russia’s top junior league, where he scored 27 goals and 54 points in 45 games. It took him some time to earn big minutes with the KHL club, but once he did, he never looked back.
As a 19-year-old, he broke out during the 2024 KHL playoffs. He scored four goals and 13 points, helping Metallurg win the Gagarin Cup. The following season, he set new career-highs with 13 goals and 25 assists.
Kantserov took off this past KHL season and really got Blackhawks fans excited. He led the league with 36 goals, the most scored by a player under 23 in KHL history. He finished over a point per game with 64 points in 63 regular-season games. His postseason run wasn’t as great, with four goals and eight points in 15 games, before Metallurg was eliminated in the semifinals.
He will be a big part of the Blackhawks' offensive attack for years to come. Kantserov plays a fast-paced, high-energy style of hockey and is a great facilitator for his teammates, while finding space on the ice. He has an elite hockey IQ, and his quick hands make him lethal in the high-danger areas. He doesn’t shy away from physicality, as he can be relentless on the forecheck to create offense. There is little doubt he will be a fan favorite in Chicago.
There has been no official word from the Blackhawks on Kantserov's status, but we’ll have you covered once the news drops.
