The Chicago Blackhawks are back to being the worst team in the NHL after a 4-3 defeat to the Minnesota Wild.
The most frustrating part of the Hawks having the least amount of points in the standings is the team has been in pretty much every game they have lost this season.
Blowing leads is one thing the Blackhawks have done well this season.
The Hawks are tied with the Buffalo Sabres for the most blown leads this season. It is no wonder both of those teams are at the top of the Tankathon standings.
The toughest part is the Hawks rarely enjoy having leads for long, as it seems like the opposing team answers back quickly.
The Blackhawks have been scoring more goals lately ever since Luke Richardson was fired as head coach earlier this month. Interim head coach Anders Sorensen has won over the locker room and the Hawks have scored 27 goals over the past nine games.
Connor Bedard has thrived after going through an early season regression under Richardson. He has four goals and seven assists since Sorensen took over.
Bedard had a nifty goal to get the Hawks on the scoreboard first against the Wild.
The Blackhawks did what they do best and allowed Minnesota to tie the game up a few minutes later. Frank Nazar's first career NHL assist to Nick Foligno in the second period put the Hawks back in front.
That lead lasted barely a few minutes before the Wild tied it up at two. Minnesota scored two more and when Jason Dickinson scored the Hawks third goal late in the game, it was too little, too late.
This team has to figure out how not to let games slip away.
The offense has been producing goals better than when Richardson was in charge. Failing to protect leads was a problem for Richardson and it has continued with Sorensen in charge.
It is either the defense cannot keep opponents out of prime scoring spots on the ice like how the Wild tied the game up in the second period.
It is also having goalies that are good, but not great enough to make amazing saves like on Brock Faber's go-ahead goal.
Blowing all these leads makes it hard to see the Hawks with the best lottery odds. It is not a bad thing to have another shot at a top-three pick, but this was supposed to be the season the Blackhawks got out of the Central division cellar.
Letting games slip away with regularity means another season where the Blackhawks will likely finish dead last.
