The Chicago Blackhawks 2024-25 season has ended and the offseason has begun. All eyes are now on the NHL Draft lottery on May 5 and then the night of the Entry Draft on June 27.

Now, in the midst of the long summer, thoughts of the future have circled around every Blackhawks fan's mind. What can this franchise do to get back into the competitive field? How much longer will they rebuild? Who is the future face of this organization?

Speaking of the franchise's future, Nick Foligno holds the captaincy and is the leader of this team... for now. When the Blackhawks finally phase out of this bottom-tier expectation, they will need a new leader to rise to the occasion.

Who should take over after Foligno?

There can only be one answer here, and that is the future of this franchise and one of the future superstars of this league for a long time to come: Connor Bedard. There is no doubt that once Foligno either gets moved to a different team, retires, or relinquishes his captaincy like John Tavares did to Auston Matthews in Toronto, it will be Bedard who takes the mantle.

Outside of Bedard, their are a few choices like Ryan Donato and Tyler Bertuzzi, but they cannot take over the "C". There can only be one name to lead this team.

Why him?

It's pretty simple, he is a generational talent. The Blackhawks have to do everything in their power to ensure that Bedard remains in the Windy City for the entire career. The only way to do that is to do the following...

Give him the captaincy and declare him as the future of this franchise. Bedard has already made such an impact in such a short amount of time. The second thing that the Blackhawks have to do to keep him in Chicago, is to supply him with some highly skilled teammates that can help bring this franchise up from the bottom of the NHL.

Bedard will become the 37th captain of the Blackhawks. It is only a matter of time.
