This third-period stat proves the Blackhawks are dangerous until the buzzer

The Chicago Blackhawks are a much better team in 2025-26, but one stat line shows why they're winning more this season than in the recent past.

The Chicago Blackhawks are 11-9-5 with 27 points, and are vastly improved across the first two months of the 2025-26 season. They're 12th in scoring with 80 goals in 25 games, but a significant portion of that scoring has come during a single portion of the game.

Tab Bamford of Bleacher Nation recently reported "The Blackhawks led the NHL with 25 goals in the third period. The Blackhawks were plus-10 in the third period (15 goals against)."

Of the 80 goals scored this season, 25 came in the third period in Nov. 2025 alone. That's over 31 percent of their goals, and it proves you can't count them out regardless of the deficit. It doesn't mean they'll be in the playoffs come April, but good hockey in the third period means interesting games, the occasional upset, and the possibility they'll hang around the playoff race for a while.

Chicago Blackhawks have a few stellar scorers who are driving their third-period success

Andre Burakovsky has proven to be a sound addition. Heading into Tuesday, he's third on the team with 17 points and seven goals. Of the seven times Burakovsky has found the net, four of them came in the third period. That's one clutch player the Blackhawks acquired over the summer, and one the Seattle Kraken may like to have back.

Tyler Bertuzzi has 13 goals, and six of them came courtesy of the final frame, including a hat trick against the Vancouver Canucks on Nov. 5. Bertuzzi was up and down during his first season in Chicago, but since this team has started to mesh, he has transformed into one of their best point producers with 21 points in 22 games.

Finally, there's Connor Bedard, whose two goals in a recent win over the Anaheim Ducks in the third frame capped off a stellar month for the third-year player. The Blackhawks are built to win around Bedard, and he'll be racking up goals and points in the final frame more often than not when the Hawks need a score. He will only keep taking the league by storm, and his five goals in the third period drive that home.

Blackhawks will keep getting better offensively as 2025-26 progresses

The Hawks had been left without a choice but to give their all in the third period, as they still start games slowly. That's evidenced by the meager eight goals scored in the first period in Nov. tied with the Boston Bruins for second-worst in the league next to the Detroit Red Wings.

Still, it's better than going down by a few goals in the first and knowing the end result would be a multiple-goal loss, which was the case in 2023-24 and 2024-25. So, a stellar third period shows that this team is steadily growing, and that's something Hawks fans will want to keep celebrating as this relatively young team keeps building chemistry.

If they can gain consistency in the first or second period, then they'll be tough to beat on any given night. But if their third-period heroics keep up, they are a team nobody can count out.
